PPF Calculator – Maturity Amount and Interest

Estimate what your Public Provident Fund account could be worth at maturity, with a year-by-year table.

Minimum ₹500, maximum ₹1,50,000 per financial year.

Example: 7.1% (Oct to Dec 2026 quarter). The government reviews it every quarter, so check the current rate.

Deposits above ₹1,50,000 a year earn no interest, so the calculation uses ₹1,50,000.

Enter a yearly deposit of at least ₹500.

Estimate only. This assumes you deposit the full year's amount by 5 April each year and interest is added once a year. In real accounts interest is worked out monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the month end, so depositing later in the year gives slightly less. PPF returns depend on the government's quarterly rate; confirm with your bank or post office.

About the PPF Calculator

The PPF Calculator estimates the maturity value of a Public Provident Fund account from a yearly deposit, an interest rate and a duration of 15 to 35 years (the standard term plus extensions), with a year-by-year table. The rate is government-set and reviewed every quarter, so the default is only an example.

Minimum ₹500 and maximum ₹1.5 lakh
Term:
15 years standard, with extensions in 5-year blocks up to 35 years
Interest rate:
Set by the government and reviewed every quarter, so the default is only an example
Output:
Maturity value and a year-by-year table

How to use the PPF Calculator

  1. Enter your yearly deposit (₹500 to ₹1.5 lakh).
  2. Check the interest rate, which is an example you can change, and choose the duration.
  3. Read the total invested, interest earned and maturity value, and the yearly table.

How PPF grows

Each year you deposit up to the limit and the whole balance earns the year's rate, which is added at year end. Because interest compounds, the later years add far more than the early ones.

Worked example

Depositing ₹1.5 lakh a year at 7.1% for 15 years means investing ₹22.5 lakh and ending with about ₹40.68 lakh, of which about ₹18.18 lakh is interest. Depositing earlier in the year and earlier in the month gives slightly more.

Extending the account

After 15 years you can extend in 5-year blocks. If you want to keep depositing during an extension, you generally must apply within a year of maturity; otherwise the balance keeps earning interest without new deposits.

Common mistakes

Depositing after the 5th of the month and losing that month's interest, assuming the rate is fixed for 15 years, and depositing more than ₹1.5 lakh in a year.

Frequently asked questions about the PPF Calculator

What is the current PPF interest rate?

It was 7.1% for the October to December 2026 quarter, unchanged from the previous quarter, as reported. The government reviews small savings rates every quarter, so check the latest notification.

How much can I deposit in a PPF account?

The minimum deposit is ₹500 and the maximum is ₹1.5 lakh in a financial year, across all deposits. Anything you pay above the limit earns no interest. The calculator caps your yearly deposit at the limit so the result stays realistic.

How long is the PPF lock-in?

A PPF account matures after 15 years and can be extended in blocks of 5 years. Partial withdrawals are allowed on conditions after a few years; check the scheme rules.

How is PPF interest calculated?

Interest for each month is worked out on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of that month and is added once a year at the end of March. This calculator assumes the whole year's deposit is made by 5 April, which gives the most interest.

Is PPF tax-free?

Under the old tax regime, PPF deposits qualify for the 80C deduction and the interest and maturity amount are tax-free. Under the new regime the 80C deduction is not available.

Why does my passbook differ from this estimate?

Real deposits are often made through the year, and the rate may change in some quarters. This tool uses one rate for the whole period.
