QR Codes for Indian Businesses - Complete Guide
QR codes bridge offline and online customer journeys instantly. A single scan can open websites, payments, forms, support chat, and campaign links.
For retail, events, restaurants, education, and service businesses in India, QR deployment improves convenience and measurable engagement.
This tool helps create scannable, brand-ready QR codes with export options suitable for both digital and print usage.
📱 QR Code Design and Deployment Tips
Minimum Print Size
Use enough physical size and quiet zone around the code so mobile cameras can lock focus quickly.
Error Correction Level
Choose higher correction if logos or partial occlusion are expected. It increases resilience in real-world scanning.
Contrast Matters
Dark modules on light backgrounds scan best. Avoid low-contrast color combinations and glossy reflections.
Track Campaigns
Use UTM-tagged URLs before generating QR codes to measure scans by location, medium, and campaign.

Static QR codes
The QR codes here are static: your data is encoded directly into the pattern, so they never expire and keep working without our site. The trade-off is that you cannot change the destination later; for that you would need a dynamic QR service.
Error correction and logos
QR codes have four error-correction levels that can recover roughly 7%, 15%, 25% or 30% of damaged data. Use a higher level if you add a logo, because the logo covers part of the pattern.
Printing tips
Keep strong contrast between dark and light, leave a clear blank border around the code, use the SVG for print, and test the scan on a real phone at the printed size before you print a large batch.
Frequently asked questions about the QR Code Generator
What is a QR code?
A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that a smartphone camera can read to open a web address, show text, dial a phone number or start a WhatsApp chat. It saves people from typing, and it can hold much more data than an ordinary barcode.
Is this QR code generator completely free?
Yes. The generator is free with no login, no watermark and no usage limits. Your QR code is created in your browser, so what you type is not sent to or stored on our servers, and you can download it as PNG or SVG.
What content types can I encode?
You can encode a website address, plain text, an email address (as a mailto link), a phone number (as a tel link) or a WhatsApp click-to-chat link. Choose the type, fill in the details, and the QR updates as you type.
How do I download the QR code as a PNG?
After the QR code appears, click the Download PNG button and the image is saved to your device with no watermark. For printing, choose the SVG download or the largest PNG size, because they stay sharp when enlarged.
Can I customise the QR code colours?
Yes. Use the foreground and background colour pickers to match your brand. Keep strong contrast, with a dark foreground on a light background, because low contrast makes codes harder to scan. Test the result on several phones and in different light before printing many copies.
What does error correction level mean?
Error correction lets a QR code still scan when part of it is damaged or covered. Level M (about 15%) suits most uses, and Level H (about 30%) is best if you place a logo in the centre. Higher levels make the code denser, so keep it larger.
Can I add my logo?
Yes. Upload a PNG, SVG or JPG logo and it is placed in the centre of the code. Use a higher error correction level so the code still scans, and test it on a few phones, because a large logo can make some codes unreadable.
What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
A static QR code holds fixed data and cannot be changed after it is made. A dynamic QR code points to a redirect link, so the destination can be updated later and scans can be counted. This tool makes static codes, which never expire.
How large should a QR code be on print materials?
As a baseline, print at least 2 × 2 cm for close-range scanning and leave a blank margin of about 2 cm around it so phones scan reliably. Make it bigger for posters and signs that people scan from further away. Use the SVG or largest PNG for print.
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes like the ones made here never expire and do not depend on our website, because the data is stored inside the code itself. If the code points to a web page, it keeps working only as long as that page stays online.
Can I track how many times a QR code is scanned?
Not with a static code. To count scans, use a tagged link, for example with UTM parameters read by your analytics, or a dynamic QR platform that routes scans through a redirect. Create a separate code for each placement so you can compare them.
Are QR codes safe for users?
They are safe when they lead to trusted destinations, but a QR can hide where it goes. Tell people what a scan will open, avoid shortened or unknown links, and warn users never to enter passwords or payment details on a page they reached from an unknown code.
Can I use QR codes for payments in India?
Yes. UPI QR codes are widely used by Indian shops and businesses to collect payments, and the major payment apps support scan-to-pay. To make a payment QR with your UPI ID, use the UPI QR Generator tool instead of the general one here.
