Unlike other tools, this generator uses your browser's Crypto.getRandomValues() API.

No data is sent over the network. Your password mathematically randomized securely on your own device.

Password Tips

  • Use at least 16 characters for critical accounts.
  • Don't reuse passwords across different services.
  • Use a reputable password manager to store generated keys.

Strong Passwords — Your First Line of Cyber Defence

In an era of data breaches and phishing attacks, a strong password is the simplest yet most effective security measure available to every internet user. Weak or reused passwords are responsible for over 80% of hacking-related breaches globally. In India, cybercrime increased by 15.3% in 2023 per NCRB data, making personal digital security more critical than ever.

A truly strong password is long (minimum 12 characters), combines uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special symbols, avoids dictionary words or personal information, and is unique to each account. Using the same password across multiple sites is one of the most dangerous habits — a breach on one service instantly compromises all others.

This generator creates cryptographically secure random passwords entirely in your browser. Nothing is ever sent to a server. For Indian users managing UPI accounts, net banking, and government portals like DigiLocker, having unique strong passwords for each service is non-negotiable for financial safety.

🔐 Cybersecurity Best Practices for India

🔑

Use a Password Manager

Tools like Bitwarden (free), 1Password, or Dashlane securely store all your passwords and auto-fill them. You only need to remember one master password. This lets you use a unique 20+ character random password for every account — the gold standard for security.

📱

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

2FA adds a second verification step — an OTP via SMS, email, or authenticator app. Even if your password is stolen, attackers cannot log in without the second factor. Enable 2FA on your bank, email, UPI apps, and social accounts immediately.

⚠️

Common Password Mistakes

Avoid: your name, DOB, "password123", sequential numbers, or repeated characters. Never use your mobile number or Aadhaar-related info. Don't reuse passwords. Don't write them on sticky notes. Use this generator to avoid all these pitfalls automatically.

🏢

Business Password Policies

Indian businesses should enforce: minimum 12-character passwords, mandatory 2FA for all admin accounts, quarterly password rotation for privileged accounts, no shared credentials, and an approved password manager policy under their IT security framework.

About the Password Generator

The Password Generator creates strong random passwords or word passphrases using your browser's cryptographically secure random generator. Choose length and character types, exclude look-alike characters, and see the estimated strength in bits. Passwords are never sent anywhere.

Password Generator quick facts

Length:
8 to 128 characters
Passphrases:
3 to 10 words
Randomness:
Your browser's cryptographically secure generator (crypto.getRandomValues)
Strength:
Estimated in bits of entropy
Privacy:
Passwords are never sent anywhere

How to use the Password Generator

  1. Set the length and character types, or switch to passphrase.
  2. Generate a password.
  3. Copy it into your password manager.

Length beats complexity

Current guidance from NIST favours long passwords or passphrases over forced symbols. A random 16-character password from the full keyboard set has about 105 bits of entropy, far beyond what attackers can guess.

How it is generated

Passwords use your browser's cryptographically secure random generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with unbiased selection, and are never sent anywhere.

Use a password manager

Create a unique password for every account and let a password manager remember them. Turn on two-factor authentication for important accounts.

Frequently asked questions about the Password Generator

How secure are the generated passwords?

The passwords are generated using cryptographically secure random number generation in your browser. They include a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols for maximum security.

How long should my password be?

Security experts recommend at least 12 to 16 characters, and longer for important accounts. Each extra character makes a password exponentially harder to guess. This tool can create passwords up to 128 characters, so use a password manager to store long ones.

Is my password stored or saved?

No. The password is created in your browser and shown only on your device. It is never sent to or stored on our servers, so we cannot see it. Copy it into a password manager straight away, because it is not saved once you leave the page.

What makes a strong password?

A strong password is long (12+ characters), uses a mix of character types (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols), avoids dictionary words, and is unique for each account.

Is this tool free?

Yes. The Password Generator is free to use with no sign-up and no limit on use. It builds strong random passwords in your browser, so nothing is sent to or stored on our servers.

Should I use a password manager?

Yes, absolutely. Password managers like Bitwarden (free and open source), 1Password, and Dashlane encrypt and store your passwords locally or in the cloud. They generate, fill, and manage unique passwords for every site. Security experts universally recommend them as the most practical way to maintain good password hygiene.

What is a passphrase and is it stronger than a password?

A passphrase is a sequence of random words — for example "Mango-Cloud-River-Desk-47". Passphrases are easier to remember and can be extremely long (25+ characters), making them harder to brute-force. Our tool supports passphrase generation mode. For accounts where you must type the password manually, a passphrase is often more practical than a complex random string.

How do hackers crack passwords?

Common methods include: brute force (trying every combination), dictionary attacks (testing common words and patterns), credential stuffing (using leaked username/password pairs from other breaches), and phishing (tricking you into entering your password on a fake site). A long, random, unique password defeats brute force and dictionary attacks. 2FA defeats credential stuffing.

How often should I change my passwords?

NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) updated its guidelines in 2023: you do not need to change passwords on a fixed schedule unless there is evidence of compromise. Instead, focus on using strong, unique passwords for every account and enabling 2FA. Change passwords immediately if a service you use reports a data breach.

Are passwords with special characters always stronger?

Special characters do increase complexity, but length matters more than character variety. A 20-character password with only letters is exponentially harder to crack than a 8-character password with symbols. That said, combining length with character variety (our default setting) gives the maximum protection against both brute force and dictionary attacks.

Is my generated password visible to Gopafy?

No. Password generation runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript's Web Crypto API. No data is transmitted to our servers. You can disconnect from the internet and the generator will still work. Your passwords are completely private.

What is the difference between encryption and hashing for passwords?

Encryption is reversible — encrypted data can be decrypted with a key. Hashing is one-way — passwords are stored as hashes (e.g., bcrypt, Argon2) and cannot be reversed. Reputable services store hashed passwords, never plain-text. This is why even if a company is breached, attackers get hashes, not your actual password — another reason why unique passwords per site are critical.

How is the password generated?

It uses the Web Crypto API in your browser, specifically crypto.getRandomValues, which draws from the operating system's secure random source. Characters are picked without bias, so every allowed character is equally likely, unlike simple generators that use weaker random functions.
